1、Looking Beautiful and Being BeautifulBeauty, they say, is in the eye of the beholder. In other words, beauty is subjective and youre only beautiful if others think you are beautiful. The Evil Queen in the “Snow White” fairy tale found that out when she asked the Magic Mirror, “Who is the fairest of

2、them all?” and was told, “It aint you, Queenie!”Mirrors, magic or not, are much too honest. A quick glance at your reflection can leave you in despair at a nose too wide, a chin (下巴) too small or ears that stick out like jug handles. Why, you may think, cant I be as beautiful as a movie star? Well,

3、the answer is you can and it doesnt require any expensive plastic surgery or a Meitu Xiuxiu app. All you need is to develop your “inner” beauty.Inner beauty is a quality thats hard to define but easy to recognize. A teacher colleague of mine (her English name is Penny) has such inner beauty. She has

4、 a nice but not beautiful face. Shes even a little heavy. But when people meet her, they are immediately drawn to her. She shines with so much inner goodness and love that even shy little children want to give her a hug. How did she get that way? In her case, I think it comes naturally, but she sets

5、 an example that I and her other colleagues try to follow.There is a beauty contest now underway in China to find students who have inner beauty similar to Pennys. Its called “The Most Beautiful High School Students / Vocational School Students.” These are students who love their country, study dili

6、gently, volunteer, help others, and have respect for their parents and the elderly. As far as I know, these students are not required to wear designer clothes or walk down catwalks and be judged by their appearances. The students will be judged by, as Martin Luther King said, the “quality of their c

7、haracters.” And it really is “character” that makes a person beautiful.Just after the National Day holiday, three young Chinese women were prevented by Customs officials from leaving South Korea. They had spent their vacation getting plastic surgery and their puffy (腫脹的) faces no longer matched thei
