university.Iwasreallygoodatdrawingandatbasketball.IyedfortheuniversityteamandonedayourcoachaskedmetodrawapicturetoprintonT-shirtsforeveryoneintheteam.IdidthatandtheT-shirtsbecamesopopularthatthebaseballandvolleyballteamsaskedmetodesignT-shirtsforthemtoo.QuitequicklyIstartedgettingordersfromlotsofdifferentpeoplesoIdecidedtostartmyownbusiness.ThenclothesshopsfoundoutaboutmyT-shirtsandaskedtoseesamples.ThisleadtoquiteafewtripsalloverthecountrywhichIreallyenjoyedbecauseImetallsortsofpeople.Ifyouaskme,whenyou’remeetingpotentialcustomers,showinginterest

inthemisessential.Youmaybesellingagreatproduct,butifyoudon’tseemtocareaboutthecustomer,youwon'tsellanything.Thefirstyearofthebusinesswasquitetough.Iworkedreallylonghoursandonlymadeasmallprofit,butIinvesteditinadvertisingandinmarketingmybrand,especiallyonline.I'mreallygladIdidthatbecausemybrandquicklybecamestrongerandmoreandmorepeoplestartedtorecogniseit.CompaniesthatsoldclothesonlinewantedtoincludemyT-shirtsontheirwebsitesandIwashappytoagree.IhadawebsiteofmyownbutthemoreT-shirtsIsoldthebetter–Ididn’tmindwheretheyweresoldfrom!Andsalesdidincrease!TheextramoneymeantthatIcouldspendmoretimethinkingaboutnewdesignsformyT-shirts.InthebeginningmyT-shirtshadhadsportsdesignsbutthenIstartedmakingT-shirtswithfilmtitlesandthenamesofbandsonthem.Andnowthedesignsthatsellmostaretheoneswithfilmstarsonthem.They'remyfavourite,too!Inthelastcoupleofyears,mybusinesshasgrownsomuchthatI'vehadtohirealotmorepeople.SoonafterIstartedthebusiness,mybrotherandafriendjoinedmebutwenowhaveateamof30employees,mostofwhomareourneighbours.It'sareallygreatfeelingknowingthatI'msupportingmycommunity.Ialsofeelreallyluckybecausewe'reallverycreativeandcaring.Idon'tknowwhereI'dbewithoutmyteam,allofwhomarereallyorganized–exceptme!(laughs)TheylaughatmeallthetimebecauseIoftenlosethingsorforgetaboutmeetings.Well,nobody'sperfectandImustbengagoodjobbecauseI'verecentlyreceivedthe'MostInspiringYoungBusinesswomanoftheYear’award.Icouldn'tbehappieraboutthatandit'ssomethingI'llrememberfortherestofmylife.(fadeout)Now,I'vebroughtsomeT-shirtswithmetoshowyou...
