8、 both the two authors themselves and their works have been frequently researched by scholars from all over the world. in 1940s, eileens essays were appreciated by some scholars. su qing regarded her as a fairy talent. but her novels were rarely researched by others. however, in 1944, fu lei, a great

9、 writer and translator published his on eileen changs novels in which he analyzed the writing skills, language features and specific plots of eileens novels through the research of the golden cangue, love in a fallen city and lian huan tao. in this article, fu lei criticized the narrowness of eileen

10、s writing theme and flaws in her plots. he affirmed eileens talent in psychological observation, language skills and imagination, but according to him, when it comes to the contribution of these talents to her works, it can only be found in the golden cangue. he believed that the golden cangue was e

11、ileens best novel.the real popularity of eileen chang started from 1980s when the american chinese professor named xia zhiqings history of modern chinese fiction, which was first published in hong kong in 1979, and later caught the attention of mainland scholars in 1980s, entered mainland china. in

12、that book, professor xia expressed that eileen was the greatest writer of china at that time. if only short story was taken into consideration, eileen was even comparable with katherine mansfield and mackereth. he highly appreciated the golden cangue as the best novellas that china ever had. profess

13、or xia used 42 pages to introduce eileen while only 28 pages to introduce the great chinese writer lu xun. from this we can see the authors preference to eileen. despite the influence of his political stand on his literary aesthetics, which many scholars criticized him for later on, we can still get

14、 a glimpse on eileens status in chinese literary history. the publication and success of that book marks eileens real entrance into chinas literary history and scholars research. however, it is the publication of ke lings a letter to eileen chang from far away in reading and harvest that finally bro

15、ught eileens novels to people. another scholar that cannot be ignored is chen zishan. he has published many books about eileen, such as whisper to eileen chang, eileen chang untold, farewell to eileen chang etc. to research eileens works and her life experience. early to 1930s, scholars and critics

16、had criticized eileen for the narrowness of her writing themes and the contraction of her visual field, but chen believed that from a english biography eileen wrote in 1965, in which she wrote about chinas modern history and political and cultural evolution, we could see her broad horizon.chinese sc

17、holars attention toward jane austen first started from 1980s, and then research of jane and her works came in continuous stream. before 1980s, similar with eileen, jane was criticized for her “narrowness of her writing themes and the contraction of her visual field”, so her novels and her influence

18、in world literary history was not fully noticed. zhu hong started the early research of jane austin in china. in 1982, she published her article pride and prejudice toward jane austen and appealed for peoples attention toward jane. during 1980s, many famous scholars wrote to remove peoples prejudice

19、 toward jane, such as yang jiang and qian zhen etc. in 1990s, chinas study of jane austen became more thorough. scholars and critics began to study her ideology and artistic achievements from various perspectives. many of janes novels were translated into chinese at that period of time. in recent ye

20、ars, the literary worlds passion on jane austen has not waned. scholars began to study jane from more specific perspectives, mainly as follows. first is about the view of marriage. janes thinking about love, marriage and money has become a classic topic of study. generally speaking, it is a common v

21、iew that in janes opinion, marriage for pure interest and marriage without consideration of interest are both wrong. a successful marriage should be a combination of both spiritual and material happiness. second is about janes attitude toward sense and sensibility. this is a controversial topic. tra

22、ditionally, people think jane is a rational writer who is against romantic ideas. but some scholars thought that jane is a combination of ration and romance. thirdly, research jane austen from the perspective of feminine criticism. janes novels reflected social status of women at that time, expresse
