Brainstormwhatyouwanttowrite.Directstudentstothephotos.Ask“Whatsortsofdreamsarethese?”Elicitanappropriateresponse,forexample,Thisone'saboutfalling.Thisone'sabouttakingatest.Thensay“Thinkofastrangedreamyouhad”.Directstudentstotheexamplesandreadthemaloud.Say“Thinkaboutthesequestions:Whathappenedinthedream?Wherewereyou?Whowereyouwith?Whatdidyoudo?Howdiditend?”Tellstudentsto“freewrite”somenotesaboutthedream,jottingdownanythingthatestomind.Encouragethemtogettheirideasdownandnottoworryaboutaccuracy.Monitor,offeringhelpasneeded.

Identifythestructureandlanguageforthespecialtopic.DirectstudentstothewritinginExercise1.Ask“WhatistheorderoftheeventsinMelanie'sdiary?”Elicitanappropriateresponse,forexample,It'stheorderwhichtheeventshappened,orchronologicalorder.Explainthattowriteabouttheirdreams,theyshouldusechronologicalorder.

Write.Directstudentstothestarterwriting.Pointoutthetimeexpressions,showinghowtheyhelpthestudentswritetheeventsinchronologicalorder.Thendirectthemtotheirfreewriting.Say“Nowputtheeventsofyourdreaminorder.Thinkaboutthedetailsofthedreamandaddthemtoyourwriting.”Monitor,offeringhelpasneeded.Besuretogivestudentsenoughtimetowrite.Iftimeisshortinclass,allowstudentstofinishtheirwritingforhomework.

Peerreviewchecklist.WhenstudentshavefinisheddoingtheSelfcheck,havethemswappaperswithapartner.Alternatively,youmaycollecttheirpapersandredistributethemtotheclass,havingpeereditingdoneanonymously.Eithergiveeachstudentahandoutwiththefollowingchecklistorwriteitontheboard;

□DidthestudentuseKeyWords,KeyExpressionsandVocabularycorrectly?Ifnot,circleanymistakes.

□Arethespelling,grammarandpunctuationcorrect?Ifnot,circlewherethestudenthadproblems.

□Doyouhaveanyothersuggestions?

Readthequestionsaloud,makingsurestudentsunderstandthemeaning.Say“Nowreadyourclassmate'swriting.Canyoucheckallthepointsonthelist?”Monitorasstudentsreadtheirclassmates'papers.Offerassistanceonhowtheycangivesuggestionstotheirclassmates.

Revise.WhenstudentshavefinishedreadingtheirclassmatespapersandansweringthequestionsonthePeerreviewchecklist,returnthepaperswiththechecklists.Youmaychoose
