FirstWeekofDevelopment:OvulationtoImplantation

Chapter3OvarianCycleAtpuberty,thefemalebeginstoundergoregularmonthlycycles.ThesesexualcyclesarecontrolledbytheHPG(Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Gonad)axis.GnRH,Gonadotropin,follicle-stimulatinghormone(FSH)luteinizinghormone(LH)/ICSH

OvarianCycleAtpuberty,theAtthebeginningofeachovariancycle,15to20primary(preantral)folliclesarestimulatedtogrowundertheinfluenceofFSH.Undernormalconditions,onlyoneofthesefolliclesreachesfullmaturity,andonlyoneoocyteisdischarged;theothersdegenerateandbecomeatretic.Whenafolliclebecomesatretic,theoocyteandsurroundingfollicularcellsdegenerateandarereplacedbyconnectivetissue,formingtheinterstitialgland(corpusatreticum).Atthebeginningofeachovar
