A path paved with coal-dust zigzags along the lotus pond, so secluded as to be little frequented in the daytime, to say nothing of its loneliness at night. Around the pond grows a profu

12、 whatever I pleased or of nothing at all, and that gave me a sense of freedom. All daytime duties could be disregarded.
