Inthesecondsemesterofgradeseven,anewandexcitingaspirationtookrootinmyheart-Iyearnedtolearnsinging.Thisdesiredidn'tsproutoutofthinair;itwastheresultofaseriesofbeautifulencountersandinnerlongings.

Itallstartedduringanordinarymusicclass.Ourmusicteacherplayedaclassicsong,andthemomentthemelodiousnotesfilledtheclassroom,Iwascompletelyspellbound.Thesinger'svoiceseemedtocarrymagicalpowers,effortlesslypullingmeintoaworldfullofemotions.Isatthere,myeyesclosed,allowingthemusictowashovermelikeagentlestream.Atthatinstant,Ifeltastrongurgedeepwithinme,ayearningtobeabletocreatesuchbeautifulsoundsmyself.

Afterthatclass,Ibegantopaymoreattentiontomusic.IwouldlistentovariouskindsofsongswheneverIhadthechance,whetheritwasontheradioduringmycommutetoschoolorthroughmyearphonesbeforegoingtobed.Eachsongwaslikeauniquestory,toldthroughthemediumofmelodyandlyrics.Iwasfascinatedbyhowdifferentstylesofmusiccouldevokesuchawiderangeoffeelings-fromtheupbeatandenergeticpopsongsthatmademewanttodance,totheslowandsoulfulballadsthatbroughttearstomyeyes.

Inadditiontothetechnicalaspects,Ialsolearnedtheimportanceofexpressingemotionsthroughsinging.Ourclubinstructortaughtusthatagoodsingernotonlyhasabeautifulvoicebutalsoknowshowtoconveythemeaningandfeelingsbehindthelyrics.IstartedtoanalyzethesongsIsangmorecarefully,tryingtounderstandthestoriestheytoldandtheemotionstheyweremeanttoevoke.Thismademysingingmorethanjustadisplayofvocalskills;itbecameawayformetocommunicatemyinnermostthoughtsandfeelings.

Asthesemesterwentby,Imadesignificantprogress.Iwasabletosingmoreconfidentlyandwithbettercontrol.Ievenhadtheopportunitytoperformonstageduringtheschool'sartfestival.Standingonthatbigstage,withthespotlightshiningonmeandtheaudience'seyesfixedonme,IfeltasenseofaccomplishmentandjoythatIhadneverexperiencedbefore.WhenIfinishedsingingandheardthethunderousapplausefromtheaudience,Iknewthatallmyhardworkhadpaidoff.
