eventhosepatientswhowerenottoldoftheirseriousillnesswerequiteawareofitspotential

outcome.

Itisimportantforfamilymembers,anddoctorsandnursestounderstandthesepatients'[7

communications]inordertotruly[8understand]theirneeds,fears,andfantasies.Mostofourpatients

welcomedanotherhumanbeingwithwhomtheycouldtalkopenly,honestly,andfranklyabouttheir

troubles.Manyofthemsharedwithustheirtremendousneedtobe[9informed],tobekept

up-to-dateontheirmedicalconditionandtobetoldwhentheendwasnear.Wefoundoutthatpatients

whohadbeendealtwithopenlyand[10frankly]werebetterabletocopewiththeapproachofdeath
