?WiFiconfigurationhotspotsthateitherremainopenoncesetupisfinishedorcanbestartedeasily
?Firmwareupdatesareavailablebuttheyarestillvery
non-intuitiveinmanydevicesandusersdon’tapplythem.
IMPACT
?It’smuchmoredifficulttostopattackson“things”thantraditionallaptopsandsmartphones.Ifanattackerdecidestostartplayingwithahome’ssmartlightsmostpeoplewillbepowerlesstodoanythingaboutitbarshuttingdownthepowerentirely
?Inalotofscenarios,thedeviceswillleaktheWiFipassword.Insome,theywillleakevenmoresensitiveinformation
?Manydevicesrunbusyboxandcanbeusedto“pivot”orsniffsensitivedatainthelocalnetwork.
?We’vealreadyseenrootkitsdesignedespeciallyforARMarchitecturesandbusyboxplacingthedevicesintobotnets.
?In2014100.000refrigeratorswereincorporatedintoabotnetthatwasabletosend750.000spame-mailsinburstsof100.000emailsatatime,threetimesaday.
