2024isacrucialyearforreachingthegoalssetoutinthe14thFive-YearPlan.Overall,

China’snationaleconomyhasmaintainedstabilitywithsteadyprogress.Thecountryhas

steadilycultivatednewqualityproductiveforcesandcontinuouslydeepeneditsreformand

opening-up.SolidadvancementshavebeenmadeinChinesemodernization,whichhas

contributedtoatrendofsteadydevelopmentintheexhibitionindustry.

Asanintegralpartofthemodernindustrialsystem,theexhibitionindustryservesasa

vitalplatformforfosteringhigher-standardopeningup,advancingChinesemodernization

comprehensively,andpromotinghigh-qualityeconomicdevelopment.In2024,newquality

productiveforceshaveemergedasakeydriverforthehigh-qualitydevelopmentofChina’s

exhibitionindustry.Localgovernmentsatalllevelsviewtheexhibitionsectorasanimportant

leverforeconomicgrowth.Foreign-investedenterpriseshavemaintainedconfidenceinthe

Chinesemarket,andmajorinternationalexpositionsliketheChinaInternationalImportExpo

(CIIE)andtheChinaInternationalSupplyChainExpo(CISCE)haveservedasimportant

platformsforadvancingChina’shigh-standardopeningup.Businesseshaveintensifiedtheir

effortsandincreasedthefrequencyofparticipatinginandorganizingexhibitionsabroad,

makingsignificantcontributionstostabilizingforeigntradeandoptimizingitsstructure.

Since2005,theChinaCouncilforthePromotionofInternationalTrade(CCPIT)has

releasedtheAnnualReportonChina’sExhibitionIndustry,analyzingtheannualtrendsand

characteristicsoftheexhibitionindustry.Thereporthasgarneredwiderecognitionboth

domesticallyandinternationally,offeringvaluablereferencesandguidancefortheindustry.

UnderthecommissionoftheDepartmentofExhibitionManagementofCCPIT(Officeof

InternationalExhibitionsBureauandWorldExpoAffairs),CCPITAcademyhasproduced

theAnnualReportonChina’sExhibitionIndustry2024.Thereportstudieseconomicandtradeexhibitionsheldinprofessionalvenueswithanareaofmorethan2,000squaremeters1.ThedataprimarilycomesfromthelocaltradepromotioncouncilsandtheChinaInternationalExhibitionCenter’s(CIEC)exhibitiondatabase.Foroverseasexhibitions,thereportcoversprojectsapprovedbyCCPITandhavebeenactuallyexecuted,withdataderivedfromCCPIT’sOverseasExhibitionApprovalManagementSystem.Throughin-depthresearch,dataanalysis,policyresearch,andexpertdiscussions,wehavethoroughlyexaminedthedevelopmentenvironment,generalcharacteristics,domesticandoverseasexhibitiondevelopments,andexhibitionvenuemarketsofChina’sexhibitionindustryin2024.WehavealsoprovidedacomprehensiveanalysisofthestatusofChina’sexhibitionindustryin2024anditsfutureoutlookfor2025.

TheoverallstabilityandsteadyprogressofChina’seconomyin2024,markedbysolidprogressinhigh-qualitydevelopmentandthegrowthofnewqualityproductiveforces,alongwiththeongoingdeepeningofreformandopeningup,haveestablishedarobustfoundationforthedevelopmentofvariousindustries,includingtheexhibitionindustry.Recognizingthesignificantrolethattheexhibitionindustryplaysinboostingeconomicgrowth,governmentsatalllevelshavetakenproactivemeasurestopromoteitsdevelopment,focusingonmakingitmoremarket-oriented,professional,andinternational.

I.Newqualityproductiveforcesleadingtohigh-qualitydevelopmentofChina’sexhibitionindustry

PresidentXiJinpingpointedoutthatcultivatingnewqualityproductiveforcesstandsasanintrinsicrequirementandanimportantfocusofpursuinghigh-qualitydevelopment.Primarilydrivenbyinnovation,newqualityproductiveforcesbreakfreefromtraditionaleconomicgrowthmodesandproductivitydevelopmentpaths,featurehightechnology,efficiencyandquality,andrepresentanadvancedformofproductivityalignedwiththenewdevelopmentphilosophy.Theircorehallmarkisasignificantincreaseintotalfactorproductivity.Withinnovationasthetraitandqualityasthekey,newqualityproductiveforcesareadvancedproductivityinessence.

China’sexhibitionindustryisatacriticaljunctureofoptimizingconfigurationandenhancingquality.Continuousreformandinnovationarenecessarytounlockitsfullpotentialanddrivethesectortowardhigher-qualitydevelopment.Technologicalinnovationspursthedevelopmentofnewindustries,businessmodels,andgrowthdrivers,allofwhichareessentialforcultivatingnewqualityproductiveforces.Todevelopnewqualityproductiveforcesintheexhibitionindustry,itisnecessarytoacceleratedigitalindustrialization,continuouslycultivatenewindustries,businessformsandmodels,usingnewdriverstopromotenewdevelopment.Inrecentyears,innovationintechnologiesliketheinternet,bigdata,cloudcomputing,artificialintelligenceandblockchainhasbeenaccelerating.Itnowpermeateseveryfieldandthewholeprocessofeconomicandsocialdevelopment.Theintegrationoftheexhibitionindustryandthedigitaleconomyhasaccelerated,where“digitalandintelligenttransformation”becamekeyto

creatingnewdemand,newbusinessmodels,andnewgrowthareas.Thedigitaltransformationoftheexhibitionindustryisacrucialstepinaligningwiththelatesttechnologicalrevolutionandcapitalizingonnewopportunitiesforindustrialtransformation.

In2024,alllocalitieswereencouragedtoleveragetrendsinbigdata,cloudcomputing,artificialintelligence,andothertechnologies,utilizinghuman-machineinteraction,AI,bigdatavisualization,andmetaversetechnologiestopromotetherapiddevelopmentof“digital+exhibition+experience”scenarios.Forexample,Beijingtookproactivestepstoenhancethedigitalcapabilitiesofitsexhibitionvenues.Byperfectingtheconstructionof5Gdistributionsystemstoensurecomprehensive5Gcoverageanddeployingadvancedinformationtechnologyinfrastructure,Beijingleveragedcutting-edgetechnologiessuchasartificialintelligenceanddigitaltwinstotransformitsvenuesintosmart,digitallyintegratedspaces.Hangzhoupromotedtheapplicationofholographicprojection,augmentedreality(AR),virtualreality(VR),andAI-driveninteractivesystems,organizingexhibitionsandconferencesbasedontheprinciplesofenergyefficiency,environmentalprotection,andgreen,low-carbonpractices.

II.Governmentsviewingtheexhibitionindustryasavitalleverforeconomicdevelopment

TheResolutionoftheCentralCommitteeoftheCommunistPartyofChinaonFurtherDeepeningReformComprehensivelytoAdvanceChineseModernization,adoptedattheThirdPlenarySessionofthe20thCPCCentralCommittee,emphasized:“Refiningtheinstitutionsandmechanismsfordevelopingtheservicesector”.Theexhibitionindustryservesasacrucialbridgelinkingproductionandconsumption,supplyanddemand,anddomesticandinternationalmarkets.Itisanimportantleverforenhancingtheefficiencyofindustrialandsupplychainsandakeyplatformforbuildingamodernmarketsystemandanewopeneconomy.High-qualitydevelopmentoftheexhibitionindustryisanintegralpartof“refiningtheinstitutionsandmechanismsfordevelopingtheservicesector”.Atalllevels,theChinesegovernmentviewstheexhibitionindustryasavitalleverforpromotingeconomicdevelopment,aimingtoacceleratethe“multipliereffect”ofexhibitioneconomicstomore

Atthecentrallevel,thestateunderscorestheimportanceofleveragingexhibitionplatformstofacilitateexchangeandcooperation,supportingforeigntradeenterprisesinexpandingdomesticmarketsanddomestictradeenterprisesinexploringinternationalmarkets.InDecember2023,theGeneralOfficeoftheStateCouncilissuedtheSeveralMeasuresforAcceleratingtheIntegratedDevelopmentofDomesticandForeignTrade1,detailingactionsinfiveareastoexpeditetheintegrateddevelopmentofdomesticandforeigntrade.Thesemeasuresincludeharmonizingrulesandregulations,facilitatingmarketchannelconnectivity,andoptimizingthedevelopmentenvironmentfordomesticandforeigntrade.Intermsoffacilitatingtheconnectionbetweendomesticandforeigntrademarketchannels,theimportanceofplatform-basedexchangesandmatchmakingeventsisunderscored.

Atthelocallevel,governmentsacrossChinahaveintroducedaseriesofpoliciestoboosttheexhibitionindustryin2024,viewingitasavitalleverfordrivinghigh-qualityeconomicdevelopment.Theyhaveaimedtoacceleratethedevelopmentofamodernexhibitioneconomysystemtoenhancetheinternationalinfluenceandcompetitivenessoftheircities.Forexample,atacity-wideserviceindustryhigh-qualitydevelopmentconferenceheldinFebruary2024,thecityofQingdaoemphasizedtheimportanceofbolsteringandoptimizingitsexhibitionindustrybyadoptingprofessional,market-oriented,andinternationalpractices,activelyattractingandhostinglarge-scaleexhibitions,whilepromotingthedevelopmentofgreenanddigitalexhibitionstoenhanceoverallexhibitionquality.

Thegovernmenthassupportedthegrowthofexhibitionenterprisesandpromotedcoordinateddevelopmentamonglarge,medium,andsmall-sizedexhibitionenterprises.

Localgovernmentshaveaimedtocultivateleadingexhibitionenterpriseswithadvancedconcepts,diversifieddevelopment,andinnovativemodels,whilesupportingthedevelopmentofsmallandmedium-sizedexhibitionenterprisesandencouragingtheircollaboration.Theyhavebeenpromotingthescaled,specialized,andbrandeddevelopmentoftheseenterprisestocreateamarketsystemwherelargeenterprisestakethelead,whilesmalleronesdevelop

inbalance.Forinstance,Shanghaihasbeenencouraginglocalexhibitioncompaniestoexpandtheiroperationsonalargerscale,pursuinggroup-basedanddiversifieddevelopment,andengagingincross-regional,cross-industry,andcross-sectorjointventures.Tostrengthentheirorganizationalcapabilities,thesecompanieshavealsobeensupportedtoexploredomesticandinternationalcollaborations,aswellasmergersandacquisitions.Tianjinhasencouragedenterprisestoformlargeexhibitiongroupsthroughacquisitions,mergers,andshareholdings.Ithasalsosupportedsmallandmedium-sizedexhibitioncompaniesincollaboratingtoorganizeexhibitionsandpursuingscaled,specialized,andbrandeddevelopment.

Thegovernmenthasstrengthenedthelinkagebetweentheexhibitionindustryandrelatedsectorsandpromotedthedevelopmentoftheexhibitionindustrychain.Localgovernmentshaveencouragedtheintegrationoftheexhibitionindustrywithcommerce,culture,tourism,andsports,advancingthedevelopmentofdistinctivecommercialdistrictsthatincludedining,retail,leisure,entertainment,andfitness.Theyhavealsodevelopeddistinctiveexhibitionandleisureresorts,attractedinvestmentandtalent,andfosteredtechnologicalinnovationtopromoteindustrialupgradingandamplifythespillovereffectsoftheexhibitionindustry.Supporthasbeenprovidedfortheaggregationofland,labor,capital,technology,anddataresourcestowardtheexhibitionindustrytoactivelyfosterexhibitionclustersandestablishawell-structured,efficientexhibitionindustrychain.Thegovernmentshavealsosupportedthedevelopmentofvariousprofessionalservicesrelatedtoexhibitionplanning,logistics,storage,design,andproduction.Nanjinghasbeenadvancinganintegratedmodelof“exhibition+industry+functionalarea+investmentandtrade”andhasestablisheda“conference+industry+commerce”loungeplatform.BycreatingexhibitionIPsandcultivatingnewbusinessforms,scenes,applications,andprojectsincludingsceniclandscapes,intangibleculturalheritages,holidayrecreation,ecologicalagriculture,andhealthcare,thecityhaseffectivelyleveragedthemulti-facetedplatformforintegrationandexchange.

Thegovernmenthassupportedtheinternationalizationoftheexhibitionindustryandstrengthenedinternationalcooperation.Localgovernmentshaveencouragedthebrandeddevelopmentandglobalexpansionofexhibitions.Theyhavesupportedtheindustry’s

growthandencouragedapplicationsforhostinginternationallyrenownedexhibitions.Theyhavealsoaimedtoattractinternationalexhibitionindustryresourcestotheircitiesandprovidedsubsidiesandrewardsforinternationallycertifiedexhibitionprojects.Additionally,theyhaveencouragedexhibitionenterprisestosetupoverseasbranchesandmarketingnetworks,joininternationalexhibitionorganizations,andsecureinternationalcertificationforexhibitionprojectsasthiswouldenhancetheircapabilitytoorganizeandhostexhibitionsabroad.Forexample,Hangzhouhassetagoalforinternationalcooperationnamed“25100”:“2”referstoleveragingtheresourceadvantagesoftwointernationalorganizations,i.e.theWorldTourismAllianceandtheWorldLeisureOrganization,todeepencooperation;“5”referstodeepeningcooperationwithfiveinternationalexhibitioninstitutions,i.e.theGlobalAssociationoftheExhibitionIndustry(UFI),theInternationalCongressandConventionAssociation(ICCA),theInternationalAssociationofExhibitionsandEvents(IAEE),theInternationalAssociationofConventionCentres(AIPC),andtheUnionofInternationalAssociations(UIA),inprojectcertificationandresourcesharing;and“100”referstointroducing100influentialexhibitionprojectsandinstitutionsthroughinternationalexchangesandspecializedpromotionalactivities.

In2024,Chinamadecontinuouseffortstoeasetravelforforeignnationalstothecountry.ThishasplayedasignificantroleinfacilitatingforeignpersonneltoorganizeandparticipateinexhibitionsinChina,therebymakingexhibitionsmoreinternationalandeffectivelyinvigoratingChina’sexhibitionindustry.InJanuary2024,theNationalImmigrationAdministrationimplementedfivekeyfacilitationmeasurestostreamlineprocessesforforeignnationals.Thesemeasuresincluderelaxingtheconditionsforapplyingforportvisasuponarrival,allowing24-hourdirecttransitwithoutinspectionproceduresatmajorhubairportslikeBeijingCapitalInternationalAirport,andenablingforeignnationalswithinChinatoapplyforvisaextensions,renewals,orreplacementslocally.Additionally,multiplere-entriesarenowpermittedforthoserequiringfrequentcross-bordertravel,andtheapplicationmaterialsforvisasandresidencepermitshavebeensimplified.InNovember2024,theMinistryofCommerceofChinaissuedSeveralMeasuresforPromotingtheStableGrowthofForeignTrade,whichproposedto“attractandfacilitatecross-bordertravelforbusinesspersonnel”and“steadilyadvancethesigningofmutualvisaexemptionagreementswithmorecountries”.InDecember2024,theNationalImmigrationAdministrationcomprehensivelyrelaxedandoptimizedthetransitvisa-freepolicy,extendingthestayperiodforvisa-freetransitforeignnationalsfromtheoriginal72hoursand144hoursto240hours(10days).Additionally,21newportswereaddedasentryandexitpointsforvisa-freetransittravelers,andtheareaswheretheycanstayandengageinactivitieswerefurtherexpanded.

Thevisa-freepolicieshavesimplifiedtheproceduresandprocessesforforeignnationalstovisitChina.Since2024,ChinahassignedmutualvisaexemptionagreementswiththesixcountriesofSingapore,Thailand,Kazakhstan,AntiguaandBarbuda,Georgia,andtheSolomonIslands,andachievedcomprehensivevisa-freeaccesswith26countriesAsofDecember17,2024.Moreover,Chinahasunilaterallyimplementedvisa-freepoliciesforcitizensof29countries,suchasFranceandGermany,followingsimilarpracticesofother

countries.AsofDecember17,2024,Chinahadconcludedmutualvisaexemptionagreementscoveringvarioustypesofpassports
