Directstudentstothesurvey.Pointoutthethreecategories,Drinks,Meals,Snacks.Ask"Canyouthinkofanexampleforeach?"Elicitappropriateresponses,forexample,water,lunch,fruit.Ifyoufeelyourstudentsarereadytodotheexercise,youmayskipthisstep.
Readandunderstandthesampletext.Directstudentstothesurvey.Say"ReadtheHealthyEatingSurvey."Monitorasstudentsread,offeringassistanceasneeded.Afterstudentshavefinishedreading,directthemtothechartsandgraphstotheright.Explainthatthechartsandgraphsrepresenttheanswersfromaclassthattookthesurvey.Ask"Whichchartsorgraphsgowithwhichpartsofthesurvey?"ElicitThefirstsetofchartsgoeswiththefirstsection,thesecondsetofgraphsgoeswiththesecondsection,andthethirdsetofgraphsgoeswiththethirdsection.PointoutthechartlabeledQuestion1.Askstudentstoidentifywhata,bandcstandfor.InStudentsshouldindicatethatastandsforchoicea,bstandsforchoiceb,andcstandsforchoicec.Thenask"WhatdidmoststudentsanswerforQuestion1?"Elicitorprovideb.Pointoutthatbisbiggerthanaandc,sothatmeansthatmoststudentsanswered6forQuestion1.Havestudentsworkinpairsorsmallgroupstofigureouttherestoftheinformationinthechartsandgraphs.Askquestionssimilartotheonesabovetoconfirmprehension.
