12、燒開e.g. Boil the potato for 20 minutes. 把土豆煮20分鐘。4. remain v. 保持不變;剩余 作連系動詞,后跟名詞、形容詞、不定式、分詞等做表語。指保持某種狀態。e.g. Peter become a manager, but Mike remained a worker. 彼得成為經理,可邁克仍是工人。 作不及物動詞,意為“剩余”。e.g. Only a few leaves remained on the tree. 樹上僅剩下幾片葉子。5. smell n. 氣味e.g. The apples give off a sweet smell. 蘋
13、果發出非常甜的味道。 v. 發出氣味;聞到e.g. I can smell some nice noodle soup.我能聞到香噴噴的面湯味。6. national adj. 國家的; 民族的nation (國家) + al national e.g. The group of dancers wore national dress. 那群跳舞演員穿著民族服裝。7. without doubt 毫無疑問;的確e.g. Li Na, without doubt, is the best tennis player in China. 毫無疑問,李娜是中國最優秀的網球運動員。 8. take p
14、lace 發生;出現 是不及物動詞,不能用于被動語態;常指事先安排或事發有因的事情。 e.g. Her sisters marriage took place at 8:00 today. 她姐姐的婚禮今天八點舉行。 辨析:happen則常指偶然發生的事情e.g. I happened to see Peter on my way to the museum. 在去博物館的路上我碰巧遇到皮特。9. It is said that a Chinese ruler called Shen Nong was the first to discover tea as a drink. 據說有一位叫作神
15、農的中國統治者最早發現了茶可以飲用。It is said that是個常見句式,表示“據說”, that后面接完整的句子。e.g. It is said that thirteen is an unlucky number in many Western countries. 據說在許多西方國家13是個不吉利的數字。本單元還有一個類似的句式: It is believed that,意思是“人們認為”, 其后同樣接完整的句子。e.g. It is believed that tea was brought to Korea and Japan during the 6th and 7th ce
