milliontonsofcarbondioxideeachyearbeneaththesandsof
SaharadesertatoneofitsfacilitiesinAlgeria.
Thesecarbon-reducingprojectssendmillionsoftonsof
carbondioxidegasintoundergroundgeologicformationssuch
asgasbedsnowfilledwithwater,naturalgasoroil.
Therisksofsuchtechniquesincludeleakageofcarbon
dioxidefromundergroundreservoirsthatmayendangerhuman
lifeandenvironment.Scientistsarestudyingtechniquestofind
whichrockformationspermanentlystoregasessuchascarbon
dioxide.
