Purpose:tohelpstudentsknowtypesofvolunteerwork

Directstudentstothenoticeboard.Say“Readthepostersonthenoticeboard”Whenstudentshavefinished,ask“Whatdoesvolunteerworkmean?”Elicitanappropriateresponse,forexample,Whenyouhelpsomeoneoranorganisationfornopay.Ask“Whatsortsofvolunteerworkmightyoudoatafoodbank?”Makesurestudentsunderstandwhatafoodbankis.Askwhatyoumightdoatthelibrary.Confirmthatstudentsunderstandthatatthehospital,thevolunteerworkisreadingstoriestochildren,andonthebeach,theworkiscleaninguptrash.Pointoutthatweusetheverbdowiththephrasevolunteerwork.Explainthatvolunteercanalsobeaverb,forexample,IvolunteertogiveoutfoodattheFoodBankeverySaturday.Writethestructureoftheexampleontheboard;noun/volunteer/to+verb/at(theplace)/(when).Encouragestudentstomakesentencesusingtheinformationfromtheotherposters,forexample,Ivolunteertoputbooksawayatthelibraryonceaweek.IvolunteertoreadstoriestochildrenatthehospitaleveryWednesdayafternoon.We'regoingtovolunteertocleanupthebeachthisweekend!Pointoutthatthetimephrasescanbeginthesentence,gointhemiddleorattheend.(IvolunteeratthelibraryeveryFriday.EveryFriday,Ivolunteeratthelibrary.IvolunteereveryFridayatthelibrary.)
