In all, 161 persons are buried here.G2: Why did the Qing Emperors choose such a place for their afterlife?T: It is said that Emperor Shunzhi came he

4、re by chance once when he was hunting, viewing the beautiful scenery, picturesque environment with water in front and mountain behind, which was considered to be perfect from the standpoint of geomancy. He selected a site here for his tombs location, and thus the area became an auspicious ground for

5、 Qing Emperors, with a 20-kilometer long geomantic wall on both sides, beginning from the Grand Red Gate surrounding the tombs.G1: Oh, it must be very large in size. Are we going to visit all the tombs in one day?T: Of course not. The Eastern Qing Mausoleum is 125km from north to south, 20km from ea

6、st to west, occupying an area of 2,500 square kilometers. It is impossible for us to finish in one day. We know, the Qing Dynasty was the largest feudal dynasty in China, after entering the Great Wall in 1644, they ruled for 268 years, until the year 1911, and there are ten emperors in all. Among th

7、em, 9 are buried here and in the Western Qing Mausoleum. 13、Dynasty. He had made great achievements when he was alive. Being the emperor, he wanted to enjoy the same life and rule the country after his death. In that situation, he ordered to build his mausoleum including palaces for him to live and work armies to protect his country, and so on. The terracott

14、a warriors were Emperor Qin Shihuangs army. The mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuang has not yet been excavated, but from the size of the three vaults, we can imagine how luxurious and magnificent the structure of Emperor Qin Shihuangs Mausoleum was.G: How large is it?T: In all, these three vaults cove

15、r an area of 20,000 square meters, with more than 8,000 warriors. Surprisingly, the facial expression for each warrior was different from others.G: Thats really amazing. And how is it found?T: By talking about this, we should show our thanks to the villagers of Xiyang village, Yanzhai Township, Lint

16、ong County. Those terracotta warriors were found by accident when the villager was digging a well in March, 1974. The villagers reported to the department concerned, and then with detailed exploration and identification by archaeological experts, these three vaults have been excavated. Gradually the
