telephotolens.Butsometimes,thatiseasiersaidthandone.Thiswasoneofthosetimes.
AsElliandIcookeddinner,ayoungmalepolarbearwhowasplayinginanearbylakesniffed,andsmelled
ourgarlicbread.
Thehungrybearfollowedhisnosetoourcamp,whichwassurroundedbyahighwirefence.Hepulledandbit
thewire.Hestoodonhisbacklegsandpushedatthewoodenfenceposts.
Terrified,ElliandItriedallthebeardefenseactionsweknew.Weyelledatthebear,hitpotshard,andfired
