topopularbelief,thehomelessinLosAngelesarenotmostlymentallyillor

drugaddictedorfrightening,althoughasizableminoritymeetsomeofthose

descriptions.Today,agreaterandgreaterproportionofpeoplelivingonthe

streetsaretherebecauseofbadluckoraseriesofmistakes,orbecausethe

marriagejustasthehousingmarketwasgrowingincreasinglyunforgiving.The
