高級英語課程教學大綱一、課程基本信息 課程代碼:080029;080030課程名稱:高級英語 I; 高級英語 II英文名稱:Advanced English課程類別:專業課 學 時:72 X 2 = 144學分:4 X 2 = 8適用對象: 英語(旅游管理方向)、英語(國際商務方向)專業高年級學生考核方式:筆試 先修課程:現代大學英語 精讀(基礎英語)1- 4冊二、課程簡介 高級英語課程題材廣泛,時代氣息濃厚,選材體裁多樣,除說明文外,還有記敘文、敘述文和論說文,是一門訓練學生綜合英語技能尤其是閱讀理解、語法修辭與寫作能力的課程,注重培養學生對不同體裁不同題材不同風格的文章的理解和欣賞能力。課程材料主要選自名家作品,內容涉及政治經濟社會文化、文學教育哲學諸方面。通過精心閱讀與分析,學生的知識面得以擴大,對社會和人生的理解得以加深,分析理解能力及邏輯思維能力得以升華,英語語言綜合運用能力得以提高。為此,每課都配有大量的相關練習,包括閱讀理解、詞匯研究、句子釋義,文體分析、中英互譯和寫作練習等。 Featured in a wide range of materials with strong flavor of the times and various types of writing exposition, description, narration and argumentation, Advanced English is a course designed to train students comprehensive English skills, especially in reading comprehension, grammar, rhetoric and writing. Great attention is paid to students development in comprehension and appreciation of the articles with different types, themes and styles. Materials are selected largely from some famous contemporary masters works with respect to politics, economics, society, culture, literature, education, philosophy, etc. Students scrupulous reading and analysis of the articles help to broaden their knowledge, deepen their understanding of life and society, elevate their analysis and logical thinking and enhance their ability comprehensively in application of the English language. For those purposes, plenty of relevant exercises are attached to each lesson for reading comprehension, word study, sentence paraphrase, style analysis, writing and Chinese-English cross-translation. 三、課程性質與教學目的 根據全國英語專業教學大綱規定,在基礎階段的英語教學完成以后,必須繼續進行更高一級的英語閱讀教學。高級英語是英語專業本科教學中的一門主干必修課,是低年級基礎英語課程的延伸和發展。該課程的教學重點在于提高學生閱讀理解和詞匯運用能力,即能掌握和使用所學詞匯,特別是同義詞、近義詞的區分和使用,正確理解文章的內容和主題思想,抓住文章的要點,分析文章的結構、語言技巧和修辭特點;提高學生語言表達能力,邏輯思維和判斷評述能力,能用英語解釋文章中的難句、要點;能用英語歸納文章的主題思想,并能對文章的內容進行簡單的分析、鑒賞、評論。 學生應該能用辭典和其他工具書獨立解決語言和文化、背景知識方面的難點,增加文化知識,尤其是英語語言國家的背景知識和文化知識,更好地使語言和文化結合起來。 通過一學年(約144學時 )的高級英語課程教學,學生應達到高等學校外語專業教學指導委員會修訂的 高等學校英語專業英語教學大綱 所規定的要求:認知詞匯達10,000以上,能正確而熟練地使用其中5,000多個及其最常用的搭配;能熟練掌握句子之間和段落之間的各種銜接手段,連貫地表達思想;能讀懂一般英美報刊雜志上的文章、英語國家出版的有一定難度的歷史傳記和文學作品;能分析文章的思想觀點、語篇結構、語言特點和修辭手法等。通過閱讀和分析內容廣泛的材料,包括涉及政治經濟社會語言文學教育哲學等方面的名家作品,擴大學生的知識面,加深對社會和人生的理解,培養對文章的分析和理解能力邏輯思維能力以及獨立思考能力,鞏固和提高語言綜合運用能力。要求學生掌握課文的中心思想,了解篇章結構段落大意,熟悉各種常見的修辭手段以及課文的重點、難點。每課都配有大量的相關練習,包括閱讀理解、詞匯研究、文體分析、中英互譯和寫作練習等,使學生的英語水平在質量上有較大的提高。英語專業高年級階段的主要教學任務是讓學生繼續打好語言基本功,學習英語專業知識和相關專業知識,進一步擴大知識面,增強對文化差異的敏感性,提高綜合運用英語進行交際的能力。 與其它高年級英語課程相比,高級英語課程課時最多,涵蓋面最廣;因此,該課程是保證實現教學目標的重要環節。 四、教學內容及要求 (一)目的與要求高級英語 I (教材:現代大學英語 精讀 5 楊立民、梅仁毅 主編 外語教學與研究出版社 2004年版)(一)目的與要求 Lesson One Where Do We Go From Here? Teaching Aims and Requirements 1) carefully read the “Guide to Reading” to get a basic understanding of the background of Dr. Martin Luther Kings speech -Where Do We Go From Here?2) read the word and expressions provided on Page 11 that will facilitate reading 3) preview the speech itself with the help of the notes provided between page 12 to15 4) learn how to comprehend works of English literature -for this lesson, a famous speech by a famous person 5) learn how to use some rhetorical devices such as metaphor, simile, antitheses, and parallel structure 6) understand some biblical allusions with the help of the original version 7) learn to paraphrase some sentences in the text 8) do some translation work as is required. 重點:restructuring the whole of American society with nonviolence難點:the rhetorical devices in the speechLesson Two Two KindsTeaching Aims and Requirements 1) carefully read the “Guide to Reading” to get a basic understanding of the background information of the story: Two Kinds 2) read the word and expressions provided on Page 30-31 that will facilitate reading 3) preview the story with the help of the notes provided on page 31-32 4) learn how to read and appreciate an English short story: especially the theme, character, organization of plot development and the heros or heroines epiphany(頓悟) 5) get some brief information about the differences between Chinese culture and American culture 6) get some information about the author, Amy Tan (譚恩美) 7) explain some meaningful sentences and understand their implications 重點:the sharp conflict between two generations and two cultures難點:the authors language and techniques in writing Lesson Three Goods Move. People Move. Ideas Move. And Cultures Change.Teaching Aims and Requirements 1) learn how to read and appreciate an English essay in the way the arguments are presented. 2) What are some of the important words that the author uses in developing her arguments 3) get to know what the authors attitude is towards globalization 4) get to know how the author describes the process from the moving of goods to the changing of cultures 5) note the choice of words in the rhetorical device of contrast the author employs and the mood or attitude expressed through such choice of words 6) notice some characteristics of a journalistic writing.重點:Globalization will result in a cultural merging.難點:the words and the rhetorical device of contrast the author employs Lesson Four Professions for WomenTeaching Aims and Requirements 1) The background information of the author, Virginia Woolf, and her writing style. 2) The characteristic of the language in this essay. 3) The organization of the whole speech. 4) The transition between the authors 1st and 2nd professional experience. 5) What metaphors the author uses in describing her first professional experiences as a book reviewer and her second professional experience as a novelist 6) The history of womens liberation from patriarchy and womens current social status in society. 重點:Women still encounter many of the same obstacles.難點:the techniques the author employs in the textLesson Five Love Is a FallacyTeaching Aims and Requirements 1) The background information about the author, Max Shulman and his writing style 2) The characteristics of the language in this informal essay 3) The organization of the essay 4) The large variety of writing techniques the author employs 5) The profuse figurative language the author uses 重點:Fallacy can be interpreted at different levels.難點:the language of the author Lesson Seven Invisible Man Chapter 1(Battle Royal) by Ralph EllisonTeaching Aims and Requirements 1) The background information about the author, Ralph Ellison, and the novel, Invisible Man 2) Introduction of Booker T.
