1、Lesson 89 A Slip of The Tongue 口誤【Text】People will do anything to see a free show - even if it is a bad one. When the news got round that a comedy show would be presented at our local cinema by the P. and U. Bird Seed Company, we all rushed to see it. We had to queue for hours to get in and there mu
2、st have been several hundred people present just before the show began. Unfortunately, the show was one of the dullest we have ever seen. Those who failed to get in need not have felt disappointed, as many of the artists who should have appeared did not come. The only funny things we heard that even
3、ing came from the advertiser at the beginning of the program. He was obviously very nervous and for some minutes stood awkwardly before the microphone. As soon as he opened his mouth, everyone burst out laughing. We all know what the poor man should have said, but what he actually said was: 'Thi

Bird Seed Company, we all rushed to see it. when 引導的這個時間狀語從句中含有一個同位語從句,即the news that.。由于that 引導的同位語從句較長,便與它所修飾的news 隔開了,放在謂語動詞之后,以免句子頭重腳輕。同位語從句中用了被動語態的過去將來時形式。 get round 不脛而走、傳遍get the round of (消息)傳開eg:
